We’re in for a little nostalgia today. Our game this week is one of my favorites from the Atari 2600: Chopper Command by Activision.

Pew Pew

Like most Atari 2600 games, Chopper Command is a very simple concept that produced a lot of fun. Basically, you have 3 groups of three freight trucks on the ground. You control helicopter in charge of protecting the convoy from an array of other aircraft hell-bent on destroying these trucks.  That’s pretty much it.  You fly around shooting down enemy aircraft and wracking up points.  The game ends when either you lose all 3 of your lives, all 9 of your trucks, or you reach 999,999 points.

This game was somewhat based on the game Defender, however it’s a bit less punishing and a bit less fun.  Even so, it was a great game for the 2600 that I remember fondly.
